Why do young lawyers charge less than they SHOULD?

Many lawyers do not charge low fees because they want to.
They charge less because they are afraid.
Afraid of losing the client.
Afraid of hearing, “I’ll think about it.”
Afraid of seeming arrogant.
And, above all, afraid of not knowing how to justify their fee.
The problem is not the price.
It is the lack of structure.
When the consultation feels insecure, the lawyer tries to compensate through price.
When the explanation is confusing, they reduce their fees to persuade.
But price does not persuade.
Confidence does.
The Brazilian Bar Association fee schedule does not exist to be ignored.
It exists to guide professional positioning.
If you charge 30% of the suggested minimum,
you communicate insecurity.
And clients sense insecurity.
Fees must be aligned with:
• Case complexity
• Responsibility assumed
• Time dedication
• Procedural strategy
Without a method, the lawyer improvises.
And improvisation almost always ends in a discount.
Charging properly is not arrogance.
It is professionalism.
Those who learn to structure their consultation and proposal stop negotiating price and start negotiating strategy.
